Legal Stuff

The plain-English rules for using Kiwi Trade Directory, buying a boost or job listing, and relying on the information here.

Who we are

Kiwi Trade Directory (tradedirectory.co.nz) is a New Zealand online directory of tradespeople, trade suppliers and training providers, with general information guides for homeowners. The Kiwi Trade Directory name, brand and artwork are the intellectual property of Lunjevich Decorators Limited.

Kiwi Trade Directory is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with Trade Me Limited or Trade Me (trademe.co.nz).

Using this website

By using this website you agree to these terms. You may use the site to find and contact businesses for genuine enquiries. You must not scrape, copy or republish directory data in bulk, submit false information, impersonate a business, or use the site for spam or unlawful purposes.

Business owners who claim or add a listing confirm that they are authorised to act for that business and that the information they provide (including any accreditation they submit) is true and current. We may edit, suspend or remove listings, accreditations, job ads or accounts that breach these terms or that we reasonably believe are inaccurate or misleading.

Only a verified owner can ask for their listing to be removed. Removal requests are reviewed and kept on record so a listing can be restored if needed.

Payments, boosts and job listings

Paid products (listing boosts and Trade Job listings) are processed by Stripe through Stripe’s secure hosted checkout. Your card details are entered on Stripe’s page and go straight to Stripe. Kiwi Trade Directory never sees or stores your full card details. We keep a record of each order (product, amount, GST, dates, status and the Stripe payment reference) for accounting and support.

Prices are in New Zealand dollars and GST (15%) is added on top of the listed price, as shown at checkout. A product is activated only after Stripe confirms payment.

Boosts: a boost places your listing above non-boosted listings for the trade and town you bought it for, for the period paid. When more than one local business is boosted, they take turns in the #1 position on a timed rotation. A permanent #1 position is not guaranteed. A boost expires automatically at the end of the paid period. If a payment is refunded in full, fails or is disputed (chargeback), the boost is switched off.

Trade Jobs: a job listing is published after payment and runs for one month unless renewed. Trade Jobs is only for businesses recruiting trade workers.

Refunds are considered case by case and in line with your rights under New Zealand consumer law. Contact us at [email protected].

Shop orders, returns and refunds

Products bought from our online shop are paid for through Stripe’s secure hosted checkout. Prices are in New Zealand dollars and include any GST shown at checkout. We will let you know when your order has been accepted and dispatched.

Faulty or damaged products: if a product arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, contact us at [email protected] to make a return request. The faulty product must be mailed back to us before any refund is issued. We will disclose the return postage address to you when you make your return request — please do not send anything back until you have requested a return and received that address.

Return shipping: for faulty, damaged or incorrect items, we pay for the return shipping. Once we receive the returned product and confirm the fault, we will refund you.

Nothing here limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986.

General information only

Costs, prices, laws, regulations, standards, trade information, DIY answers and guides on this site are general information only. They may be incomplete, may contain errors and may become out of date. Laws, regulations, standards and prices change.

Always check important information with authoritative sources (such as MBIE, your local council or the relevant licensing board) or a qualified professional before acting on it. Nothing on this site is legal, financial, engineering or safety advice.

Choosing a tradesperson — your responsibility

You are responsible for your own due diligence when selecting and hiring a tradesperson or supplier: check licences and registrations, ask for references and written quotes, confirm insurance and agree terms in writing.

Listing details come from public sources and from business owners. We do our best to keep them accurate but we do not guarantee any tradesperson’s quality, suitability, availability, pricing or the outcome of any job. Any contract is between you and the business.

Inclusion in the directory, the display of an accreditation badge, a “Verified” or “Claimed” label, or a paid BOOSTED placement do not by themselves amount to an independent guarantee, endorsement or certification of quality. Accreditation badges shown from a business’s own website or supplied by the owner should be confirmed with the issuing organisation.

Advertising & third-party cookies

Some pages show advertising, clearly labelled as such, including Google ads and a promotion for HMS Developments, the website’s developer. Advertisements are not part of any business listing and are not an endorsement by us or by the listed business.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info. Privacy & your information

We collect the information you give us (for example when you claim a listing, create an account, make an enquiry or buy a product) and use it to run the service, verify ownership, process orders and contact you about your account. Passwords are stored encrypted. We do not sell your personal information. You can contact us at any time at [email protected] to access, correct or delete your information.

Cookies: like most websites, we use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, measure how the site is used and (on pages that show ads) to support advertising. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work as well.

Analytics: we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. It sets cookies and collects usage data such as pages visited and general location; purchase analytics contain order details only (no names, emails or phone numbers).

Children: this website is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

By using this website you consent to our use of cookies and the collection and use of information as described here and in the Advertising section above.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by New Zealand law, Kiwi Trade Directory and Lunjevich Decorators Limited are not liable for any loss or damage (including indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit or loss of data) arising from your use of this website, reliance on its information, or dealings with any business listed on it. Where liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the relevant product in the previous 12 months.

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy, or any guarantee, warranty or other term or condition, that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986. If you are acquiring a product for business purposes, the parties agree that the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 does not apply to the extent permitted by section 43 of that Act.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms from time to time; the current version is always on this page. These terms are governed by New Zealand law. Questions: [email protected].
