Whitireia and WelTec

If hands-on learning and physical work sound like you, Whitireia and WelTec offers a range of carpentry programmes. Students can sample a range of trades disciplines, earn NCEA level 2 credits through a vocational pathway, or start with a level 3 certificate to gain basic skills for work as a labourer or apprentice. If you are already working as a carpentry apprentice, you can study the level 4 programme part-time alongside work. Students learn through practical tutorials, evening classes, workshops and online assessments, with regular on-site visits by experienced tutors. Our construction students learn by building real building projects and gain skills in framing, roofing, internal linings, fitting windows, hanging doors, health and safety, and the culture and processes of a worksite.
